Zoho Assignment Instructions for November 18

You are going to be create a breif Zoho show that details the classes you will take for the next 3 years (you will also include the classes you are taking  this school year) to satisfy the BHS graduation requirements.

Your show should have transitions, some animation ( you don't need to add animation to each text box, basic shape, image, etc). I don't want you to spend a lot of time adding animation to everything. I am most interested in seeing a quality show.

You can find class pictures on the 'S' drive in the 'Pics From Students Term 1 2011' folder. You are NOT limited to the files in this folder but you are limited from using pictures that have a restricted copyright.

You can find the graduation requirements on the BHS web site. You can also find the course catalog on BHS web site.

Assignment is due at the beginning of the period on MONDAY (NO EXCEPTIONS).

Post for November 15 - Tuesday

After you finish your project you are to work on Key Train. Make sure that you have completed at least the the 'next' level after pre-testing for Applied Math, Reading for Information and Locating Information.

Your 'next' level will depend on what your pre-test level was.

I will be looking at Key Train reports and posting grades accordingly.

Post for November 11

This is just a reminder that you should all be to the point where you are close to being ready to start recording your narration. Make sure your narration is going to be a story that 'flows' instead of being just a series of choppy facts and information.

Make your story INTERESTING!

This project is a test grade!

Remember Photo Story is FREE and can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. You can work on this assignment at home if neccesary.

First Ladies Project Clarification Details

Good morning students,

I wanted to make a few details clear regarding the First Ladies Project:

The overall finished Photo Story project should be a summarization of all your research. You should put together a story about your first lady NOT just state facts.  Make the story interesting. Pick out the most interesting things about your first lady to put in your story. Your story should flow like the chapters in a book would flow. I do NOT want choppy, unconnected segments.

You may not have time to finish this by the beginning of class on Monday so I will give you until the end of the period on Monday to finish the project.

Also remember: you can not start recording your narration until AFTER you have typed your narration on each image in Photo Story. This will help to make sure you do not have hesitation when recording.

Good luck.

Your Online Image

When young people reach puberty and their bodies begin to mature sexually, they cannot help but be interested in romance. It’s natural. Both girls and boys think about how to make themselves attractive to potential partners. This is why it is also natural for flirting and sexual talk to go on in high schools. It can become offensive sometimes, but most kids can handle it because the students are all about the same age, maturity, and experience level. It’s also normal for teens to flirt and talk with their classmates about sexual matters online.

But there are enormous problems with teens getting involved in sexual relationships with adults. For one thing, it’s illegal. Why is this true even if the sex is something the teen agrees to?
The law recognizes that it is impossible for sex between an adult and a minor to really be mutual because of the older person’s power over the younger person. The law recognizes that, in our society, adults are often seen as being in a position of power or authority. The law also recognizes that when a teen has sex with an adult there can be a negative impact on the healthy sexual and emotional development for the younger person. So the law tries to prevent this from happening to a younger person.

You might think it’s just having fun to test out your power to be sexy online. You might also think about talking about sex to online acquaintances and posting sexy photos of yourself for strangers to see. But these are risky
behaviors. They can result in you receiving crude comments you aren’t prepared for and don’t want. Or it might feel romantic at the time. But going further and meeting face to face can harm you emotionally later.

In response to this post please comment on the following:
Do you think that our laws regarding cyber safety go too far as far as young people are concerned? If so, how and what are your suggesting for changing the law.

If you do not think the laws regarding cyber safety go too far explain why.

If you think our laws need to stricter explain why and how you see these news laws.

Please be very specific in your responses. Give full sentences and well formed ideas.

Google Translatem - Work for Friday October 21

Today you are going to work on Google Translate. You will need to sign on to your Google account for this to work the right way. You can find Google Translate by going to translate.google.com

Once in the translate application you will see that there are a variety of ways that you can translate text. Test it out with the text: Good morning. Have a great weekend. Translate from English to Spanish, French and German.

There are about 50 languages that can be translated. Get the headphones and use the audio button to listen to the translations.

Go back to the translate page and you will see that you can translate an entire web page. Put in the URL for the BHS home page and translate from English to Spanish, French and German.

Experiment with at least 3 different web pages. Translating from English to other languages.

Next, open another Internet tab and search for: "rss feed" and read several reliable sources about RSS Feeds. Learn what an RSS feed is and why it is important to us. Find the source that you think is best and copy the text into Google translate. Translate that text from English to French, Spanish and German. Copy and paste each translation of this text to this blog post as a comment.

When finished work on KeyTrain please. Have a great weekend.

Online Behavior Blog Posting

  1. You are the young manager of an ice cream parlor that is beloved by local families. You are looking to hire some teens for the summer, when the shop is open late every evening. You require an application and at least one reference. It occurs to you that you could look online to find out a bit more about the applicants. Where would you look? And what might you find that would make you not hire someone?
  2. You are finally old enough to join a social networking site and set up your own profile. You spend a lot of time making the profile look cool and you have links to many friends. Your mom makes her own profile and asks you to be her “friend.” Is that fair? Explain your thinking.
  3. You have a social network profile and are smart enough to use the privacy settings to keep your stuff away from the eyes of people other than your friends. A friend of yours thinks a silly photo of you in your underwear is funny, copies the photo, and places it on her public profile. How might you feel? What might be the unintended results of such a photo in a public place?
  4. You work at YXZ University. You have to choose a few talented high school students to spend six weeks on your college campus between their sophomore and junior years. What would you want to know about these students before inviting them to live on campus? What could you find out about them online?
  5. You are a college freshman. Your cousin, who is a high school freshman, asks to “friend” you on a social networking site. You like your cousin and don’t want to hurt his feelings, but you say “no.” What are some reasons you might not want your cousin to see your profile and friends?

Take Action

Teens are often called 'early adopters' because they are often the first age group to use new technologies or find new ways to use existing technologies. Write about the positives and negatives of social networking sites, messaging, and cell phone technologies used by teens. You might want to refer to a recent incident in your community or find a news article to which you can react.

Following the Blog

Your first assignment after creating your own blog is to make sure that you are a 'follower' to the class blog. There are a variety of ways that you can go about following a blog.

PLEASE make sure that your display name does display your name and not something like 'soccergirl123'. I MUST be able to look at my follower list and see that you are following.

Blog Rules

Hello Online A and welcome to our class blog.

Blogging is one of the topics we will discuss in class and what better way to learn than to use a blog. We will use this blog throughout the term in a couple different ways.

It may be to respond to something we do in class. It may be to post work, or comment on other's work. A blog has many different uses. We also will have each of you create a blog so that you can see how easy it is.

Before we begin blogging there are a few ground rules!
1. All posts, must use appropriate school language and be completed in paragraph form. When you post, you should be using complete sentences with proper grammar and spelling. NO: U, R, UR, i, CUZ, etc.

2. When posting a comment, you may agree or disagree with another students comment. However, you must state why you feel that way and must do it in a manner that is polite and non-judgmental. The comments need to be non-personal and refrain from sarcasm and put-downs.

3. You must comment on every post, it is an assignment (unless otherwise stated).

4. You must address the topics and questions posted on the blog. You cannot simply write, “I agree.”
