Take Action
Teens are often called 'early adopters' because they are often the first age group to use new technologies or find new ways to use existing technologies. Write about the positives and negatives of social networking sites, messaging, and cell phone technologies used by teens. You might want to refer to a recent incident in your community or find a news article to which you can react.

Write about the positives and negatives of social networking sites, messaging, and cell phone technologies used by teens. You might want to refer to a recent incident in your community or find a news article to which you can react.
The positives about social networking would be face book. Face book is a good way to make new friends and express yourself, also to study for school. The internet help kids out age in the teenage years to study for school. The negatives are cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is big now a day and sometimes has the result of suicide. These are the positives and negatives of the internet/ social network.

The positives and negatives about social networks and cell phones and all that are that the negatives you might not be getting out and hanging with friends and might always be on your phone or computer and internet sites and you will not be getting active the positives about it are that your getting to talk to your friends and if you have questions about anything you can talk to your friends that are in your classes and ask what you had for homework or anything.
Teens growing up with technology are good and also can be bad. The good reasons are someone needs to learn how to use it and we are growing up with it so we are the ones learning. It is bad because we learn to hide things and it gets two the wrong hands and causes us to get into big trouble.

What are the positives of social networking sites? To me there are many good things about them. For one thing it is an easy and fun way to communicate with friends and family and be able to make plans. Another good thing about them is the apps allow you to do things like look at the weather, play games, or just have fun. Some bad things include giving out information, being friends with people you don’t know which allows them to get information on you and they may not be the best of people. The number one thing I hate about them is all the complainers. Almost everyone complains about their life. As for text messaging and any messaging it’s a fun and easy way to communicate with other people. Even though all these things have positive and negative things there is one major issue. In every form people can bully you and they can easily do it over the internet. One article I read says that it may be affecting our grades and many other things. I honestly think this is true. Many teens would much rather talk with friends then do work or pay attention in class. I hope that someday we will be able to balance both these things.

The positives about social networking sites are that teens can stay connected with friends and its fun to look at everyone’s photos and statuses. The negatives are that people would rather spend time on Facebook than doing things they need to. The positives of messaging are that you don’t have to wait for someone to get that text or post on their wall, they can get it instantly. The negatives are that people don’t use it unless you are on Facebook, and that you need to download AIM to get messaging. The positives of cell phones are you can call and text whenever you want. You can get on the Internet, take pictures and videos, and have applications. You can send internet websites, pictures, and videos to people too. Some of the negatives are that you can only do certain things like call or text if you have service, and you can only get on the internet or applications if you have 3G service. One article I heard about was that cell phones may cause cancer. My reaction was surprised but I didn’t really care because I can’t use a home phone everywhere.

The positives and negatives of being young and in the social networking scene are far and wide in size. Some of the positives are the ease of communication, and more opportunities to talk with people and plan things to do. Some of the negatives are that it’s where more bullying comes from, and it keeps kids from doing other healthier activities.

There are many positives and negatives of social networking sites, messaging, and cell phones; I’ll give two of each. One positive is that you can stay connected with old friends. Another positive is that you can meet new people. A negative is that it’s easy to get lost on the internet and do things that you shouldn’t do. Also cyber bulling is common and you could be a victim. You could even become the one causing it without ever realizing it. Many people “prank call” other students, teachers, or friends. When they do this they think of it being a funny thing but it can hurt someone’s feelings. That person could call the police or they could tell their parents who might tell the police. Once the police are involved some serious things can happen.

Social Networking helps a lot of things. An example is Facebook, helped our community grow because of advertising and the technology used in it. Kids are always on the computer and texting now days because that’s where there life is at. They should spend more time with school work and extra- curricular activities. In 2008, John Breen wanted a way to study vocab and do something for the community. He invented Free Rice which is a website that when you answer a vocabulary question, you give rice to the hungry people around the world. It has impacted the people that needed a little help and hope.
Social networking sites are good because it is very easy to connect with friends and family members. It is a bad thing because it is very easy to pretend to be someone that you aren’t. Messaging is a quick and easy way to talk to people without having a full conversation. It is also not a good thing because when you instant message, it is harder for people to understand your full emotion in the situation. Cell phone are a really good thing because you can keep in contact with people from anywhere. You don’t have to be inside or at an office. You can also send text messages that have about the same pros and cons that messaging does. Cell phones are bad because we are always on them and we don’t necessarily pay attention to our surroundings when we need to.

The discovery of new technology is positive thing for teens because it gives them new abilities. Teens can chat with each other on their downtime, help each other with homework, and even have video conversations. This can be done through social networking sites, and cell phones. An example of positive use of these materials would be Video classes. Some classrooms don’t have a physical teacher in the room, they are on a video! Teens go by what the video tells them too. However, there are negative effects of new technology. Cyber-bullying is a major issue with social networking sites such as Facebook™. People post inappropriate comments, pictures and videos that can hurt people’s feelings. A single text of saying “Loser,” to someone may be enough to put them over the edge. A study shows that cyber bully victims were almost twice as likely to have attempted suicide then kids who are bullied, but not cyber bullied. So technology is both a wonderful and hindering thing on a teenager.

The positives of social networking, messaging, and cell phones are that now people can communicate better with others. We have more abilities to be able to talk to one another because of these. They are also more forms of technology that can possibly help us out in the future. The bad things about it are that now people have more ways to cyber bully. As well as the kids who don’t have access to these devices, might get made fun of for not being able to use them. I read an article that said that overall, these devices are good for teens and others who use these. I agree because although people who use these put themselves at risk of cyber bullying, they get to experience the greatness of these things.

ReplyDeleteI find that many young teens these days have a better understanding of technologies because they had lived with it longer and are becoming more used to it than others who have lived enough to be used to less technology or none at all. It is a good thing as these teens become the adults in our nation and use technology faster and better. It is also bad as some technologies rot the teen’s minds or inspire wrong ideas. Many teens find a need to use technology in ways to harass or bug people other than help them, like cyber bullying.

Social networking, messaging, and cell phone technologies can be bad because of the opportunities to cyber bully and sending bad pictures to each other. Recently, a girl in the community sent bad pictures of herself and they got sent around very fast to almost everyone in her school. She was harassed and later killed herself over it. Technology can also be positive though such as, easy communication between parent and child, friend and friend, also, easy ways to find information for school and other situations.

Social networking sites help us in many ways because it allows us to stay in contact with everyone in “our little circle” without having to find other means of communication. However, this can pose a threat because if you post something meant for one person and click the wrong button, it can go to the exact person whom you did not want to see the post, or even every one of your friends. Messaging allows users a quick way of communicating, however if you forward a message to the wrong person, it could end up in the wrong hands. Cell phone technologies have been in our culture for a while now and most everyone has one, one positive is that the user has the ability to contact anyone at anytime, but the negative side is that they may also be at a higher risk of over-the-phone scams.

The positives about social networking sites is that people can talk online at anytime they want and don’t have to worry about going over minutes on their phone bill. The down side is that they could say something to someone to hurt that persons feeling and sometimes if the humiliation just keeps going on it could turn into something way worse. There have been incidents where people have killed them self just because of one person saying something to the whole school that damaged the ones life for good. Other then the negative about social networking it can be really great. There are help lines online where people ask for advice and other people write back giving them real advice

For the most part, teenagers are exposed to new technologies long before the generations following them. I have been a part of social networking sites, messaging, and own a cell phone. I can honestly say that they definitely have their positives and negatives.
Social networking sites help you stay connected to your friends, brush up on local news, and share pictures. Cell Phones allow us to communicate wirelessly, surf the web, and check our e-mail. Messaging lets us privately have a conversation with somebody. All these technologies have their pros.
Although social networking sites provide all these things, there are people out there that use them for the wrong reasons. Cyber bulling is a big problem right now. The website also lets outside people see your personal information which could be dangerous. Cell phones are unreliable. You never know if you have service or internet connection. An example of this is when my dad and I were in the car with a flat tire and our cell phones were out of reach. Another problem with cell phones is that people are bullied over text too. This is a major problem in our junior high and high school. Lastly, messaging doesn’t always go through and can be undependable.
Social networking sites, cell phones, and messaging can be good or bad. The bad is slowly getting eliminated which is working toward a more efficient future.

In my opinion, there are many positives to using networking sites, cell phones, and messaging. It gives us a number of ways to communicate with each other and even with our teachers. If kids play sports, they need a cell phone to talk to their parents. Social networking sites give us a chance to talk to our friends or invite them places over the computer. The negative to all of our new technology usage is cyber bullying. We need to find a way to stop cyber bullying, like the article on “Rate Nicole.” That is abuse to the power we are given by the Internet. We need to be able to find a way to only use social networking for the good.

Teens are often ones who are first introduced to new technologies like social networking sites, cell phone features, and messaging technology.
Some advantages of social networking sites are that it helps people stay in touch. Friends and family can post letters, pictures, or videos for one another to watch. It lets people vent and say what they please for others to read. Some disadvantages of social networking are anyone can say anything that may not be appropriate. Also, it can be used for peer pressure or cyber bulling on students.
Messaging is a great thing that lets people talk instantly even when they are hundreds of miles away. It is portable as well, so you can talk to people while you are on the go. A disadvantage of messaging is it can take awhile to send a message if you have weak service.
Cell phones are great to have because they can be anywhere and still talk to other cell phone users. We can text, talk, send picture/video messages, and now if you have a smart phone you can video chat live. Disadvantages of cell phones are they are not always reliable or well made. Where you get full service in one place, you may not get in another.

In our generation there are many positives to having social networking and cell phones. First of all it gives you the opportunity to communicate with people from basically anywhere you are and it can be a very useful resource as well. For example, on Facebook you can send out event invitations from your very own computer. Along with positives there come negatives. Some negatives with all the social networking and cell phones is many people cyber bully other people over the internet through Facebook, instant messaging, email, and even texting. Also giving away to much information over places such as Facebook can be very dangerous because you may get unwanted attention from some people. The positives of teens using these technologies are that it’s easy to research and find new ideas for different things, and it’s a good thing to use when you’re trying to get information across to someone. But it’s bad when teens use technology to send inappropriate messages or pictures to one another. Also there are a lot of kids that have made fun of other people by harassing them through messaging, and cell phone use or any kind of technology. I think that technology would be a very good thing if we could all learn to use it correctly, and like we’re supposed to because there have been many incidents where someone has gotten hurt by other people through technology.
